Korean dramas are now slowly taking over the world of entertainment as more and more people are getting tuned into tons of series and movies online. As it happens, the Korean hit movie ‘Parasite’ has gained popularity across the globe, as well as several international awards including the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Horror film ‘Train to Busan’ gained international attention as well, with many fans hoping for a sequel to the movie.
Aside from movies, one series is taking the world by storm especially after it was made available on Netflix. The series is a historical drama, which revolves around zombies taking over Korea. Th very first original Korean series on Netflix was first aired on January 25, 2019. Apparently, the series is adapted from the webcomic series ‘The Kingdom of the Gods’, which was authored by Kim Eun-hee and drawn by Yang Kyung-il.
Set in the Joseon period, and epidemic spreads across the country after the king gets infected by an unknown disease. The crowned prince, portrayed by Ju Ji-Hoon, investigates into the deaths of many people and soon stumbles upon the scary truth: that zombies are literally taking over their country! As he fights alongside friends and foes, the crowned prince is slowly getting to where it all started. But will he survive until the end? You will just have to wait until season 2 to find out!
Actor Song Joong-ki (Descendants of the Sun lead) was courted for the lead role but declined. In September 2017, it was reported that Ju Ji-hoon, Ryu Seung-ryong and Bae Doo-na were in talks to star in the series. And in November 2019, it was reported that ‘My Love from the Star’ actress Jun Ji-hyun will star in the second season.
The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported an 89% approval rating with an average rating of 8/10 based on 9 reviews.
